MELANCHOLIC WANDERINGS, VOL. 6: RUNNING INTO THE FOG, AKA THE VOID

Training for a marathon gives me the chance to do two of my favorite things: 1.) Run for long periods of time, and 2.) Brood intensely.

These are two ideal tracks for long runs along those foggy northwest waterfronts, the first from Thurston Moore's Demolished Thoughts, and the second from James Blake's crucial brood-fest, Overgrown.

Maybe you feel me on this one, maybe not. Either way, today is a very reflective one for da bishop.

Here are two moody cuts of the alt rock persuasion. The first is a cover of an old doo-wop song, ala Beck. The second is from Thurston Moore's Beck-produced Demolished Thoughts. Very appropriate for a mid-winter's brood, if you ask me ;)

This is a vid from Beck's Record Club, where he and a group of friends would cover an entire album in one day at the studio. I know they did Velvet Underground, Skip Spence, and this one is from Yanni (?). If you look closely you'll see Thurston Moore throwing down some brooding alt-rock strums to complement Beck's haunted wails. All kidding aside the cover is pretty good, and just what I would expect from these guys.

This is the right time of year to fuck with some introspective singer-songwriter shit. For January 2k13 it's Copenhagen's Indians, whose debut album Somewhere Else arrives on January 29th. They're doing a short tour through the US in February, so check them out if you get the chance.
