PBS Beat Making Lab - 'Bure Beat'

PBS Beat Making Lab is an international project that builds 'labs' in communities around the world (so far they've been to North Carolina, Congo, Senegal, Panama, and Figi) to provide local youth with the equipment and training to make beats and songs. Students take part in a two week residency, often with established professional producers, to learn about composition, sampling and songwriting. The results are pretty incredible.

The latest release, 'Bure Beat,' comes out of Figi, a tropical trap banger that is rounded out with a beautifully sampled traditional chant (below).

PBS also shoots documentary shorts to chronicle the development of the Labs, introducing you to the beatmakers themselves as well as their local cultures. You can view every episode on the official site, where you can also download many of the beats produced, for free.
